Please note that the BSc Bioinformatics programme will not be offered from 2009-2010 onwards.
Admission Requirements
Students may apply to study the BSc Bioinformatics program through either the JUPAS system for students attending local "mainstream" schools or by the Non-JUPAS system for all other applicants (that is, if you attend an "international" school in Hong Kong or have done your studies outside of Hong Kong). The University provides detailed information on admissions in its web site.
The ideal background for studying bioinformatics is to have studied Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry at high school. As local students cannot normally study both Biology and Mathematics at present, the course does not rely on students having prior advanced knowledge in these areas. We welcome students from both the "Biology" and "Pure Maths" streams, but we require that you have achieved a reasonable standard in mathematics and biology at the certificate, or equivalent, level. As the degree is taught in English, applicants should be comfortable in an English language environment.
More specific information is available for:
- Early Admission applicants (for outstanding sixth form students).
- Direct Admission applicants (for associate degree and higher diploma graduates).
- International and Mainland China students.
- Exchange and Visiting students.
